I’m Ross Lee
Since 1998, I have been passionate about resolving commercial, insurance, estate and other civil disputes. Following an eight-year general insurance career, my journey in the law for almost 30 years has included practice as a principal solicitor, notary public and QCAT Member mediator.
Ross Lee B.Econ LL.B OAM is an experienced mediator, principal solicitor and former QCAT Member mediator with almost 30 years’ experience in law. Drawing on decades of civil litigation, negotiation and dispute resolution experience, Ross brings a practical, balanced and commercially focused approach to mediation.
Ross has extensive experience across commercial, insurance, estate, property and other civil disputes, having acted for parties on both sides of complex matters. His more than 10 years’ experience mediating as a sessional QCAT Member gives him valuable insight into disputes from an independent, tribunal perspective.
Known for his thorough preparation and pragmatic approach, Ross focuses on helping parties move beyond entrenched positions, identify workable compromises and achieve practical, enforceable settlements—avoiding the cost, delay and uncertainty of litigation wherever possible.
Ross mediates in-person matters at the large and peaceful Mudgeeraba Foundation Mediation Centre, of which he is the governing director.
My Approach
Pre-Mediation
Gathering evidence and other preparation before mediation takes place is vital. A pre-mediation meeting can be helpful to make the main event more productive.
Mediation Procedure
Choosing a good venue is important and the Mudgeeraba Foundation Mediation Centre is the best I have experienced, due to its unique indoors / outdoors and peaceful environment.
The main mediation may include elements of: getting to know the mediator in person, brainstorming in open session, private sessions and sometimes, reconvening in open session to arrive at a verbal agreement.
Ending the Mediation
Sometimes negotiating the deed of settlement terms can take almost as long as getting a verbal agreement in principle. Patience and care are vital.
How Do I Know if a Mediator is Right for Me?
Ross may be particularly well suited to your mediation if you are looking for an experienced civil litigation lawyer who understands both the legal and practical realities of taking a dispute to court.
His approach is practical, well prepared and settlement-focused. Ross is comfortable dealing with difficult legal and factual issues, testing the strengths and weaknesses of competing positions, and helping parties realistically assess the alternatives to settlement.
Importantly, Ross does not approach mediation on the basis that every dispute is the same. His role is to understand what is driving the particular dispute, establish a process in which both sides can participate effectively, and help the parties explore whether a sensible and durable resolution can be achieved.
